Counselling Approach
Of foremost importance to me is that my clients feel understood, valued, respected and heard. I aim to create a safe, non-judgemental and supportive therapeutic space where clients can develop insight and create meaningful change in their lives and relationships.
I work from the premise that new possibilities and breakthroughs can emerge from meaningful conversation, where one is fully understood, supported to see their situation in a new light and helped to process the difficulties of their past. Depending on your needs, this may involve some trauma processing, to address some of the traumatic circumstances you have experienced in your life.
My counselling is informed by a number of therapeutic approaches, including Systemic Family Therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation, and Reprocessing), Narrative Therapy and Solution Focused Brief Therapy.
Although EMDR might be unfamiliar to you, (and sounds like a bit of a mouthful), it is a very effective, evidenced based therapy for working through and reducing the negative impacts of past trauma. It combines talk therapy with bilateral eye movements, or other bilateral stimulation such as tapping. EMDR helps you process negative images, emotions, beliefs and body sensations related to a traumatic memory, which seem to be stuck.
